August 4, 2024

On Sunday mornings, PRVFD takes fire apparatus to different locations in Pound Ridge to teach members how to operate the pump and drive for emergency operations. This allows members to practice various skills and learn different equipment used for emergency purposes.

Pound Ridge sent Tanker-3 to Somers Volunteer Fire Department for a large-scale tanker shuttle drill. We also joined New Canaan Fire Co., No. 1, along with Long Ridge Fire Company and Turn of River Fire for another tanker shuttle drill. Tanker shuttle drills are extremely important for agencies with less easily accessible water sources. They are also a great opportunity for neighboring agencies to work together to build experience and plans for fire attacks.

During Monday night drills this month, we dedicated time to boat and water rescue. On Monday, July 15th, members became familiar with our boat rescue equipment on Rescue-22. On Monday, July 22nd, PRVFD simulated boat rescue operations with lost victims; members searched bodies of water on our boats with drone assistance from above using the thermal camera to locate victims using their body heat. On Monday, July 29th, Pound Ridge was joined by the Bedford Hills Fire Department with Marine 10 to conduct a mutual aid water rescue drill; while joined by BHFD, we went through and practiced different rescue methods with Marine 10 and our drone support.

Mutual aid training is not just important, it's a cornerstone of our safety network. It allows us to learn how neighboring agencies operate and build plans to keep communities safe. This emphasis on unity and collaboration should make our members feel part of a larger, interconnected safety network.
