Last Monday, Feb 29th, members took advantage of the leap day to do even more training. Interior certified members donned their personal protective equipment and practiced descending using the new harnesses. This skill is vital for interior firefighting operation and firefighter safety. If the structure becomes compromised or the room becomes too dangerous, then our members may escape the environment by using this skill. This is a task we would hope never to use, but train on it in case one day it is necessary. While practicing life safety, our exterior members or “water department” practiced pumping and drafting at the town park.
In the video attached you can see Firefighter Cowan practicing his decent with Asst. Chief James Perry offering guidance.
